Born September 1, 1933, in Harts- ville, S.C., she was the last surviv- ing child of the late Julia Melissa, nee McKenzie, and the late Stanley Grover Barnhill. She was prede- ceased by an infant brother, Neely (1938), a sister, Elmina Schaffer (1979), and by her brothers, David (1984), Stanley (1992), Cole L. (1997) and James (2008). She was married to Waylen L. Lamb on February 14, 1959, until his death November 7, 1986.

She is survived by a son, James Waylen Lamb and his wife, Cindy, step- grandsons, David and Jonathan Curtis, and several nieces and nephews. She died June 25, 2011. Daniel Vincent DiNardi DAPHNE, Ala. Daniel Vincent DiNardi, age 14, a resident of Daphne, AL, lost his battle to stay alive on Monday, June 27, 2011. Daniel is survived by his parents, Mark Lazarek and Paula DiNardi Lazarek of Daphne; a brother, Wil- liam Scott of Columbia, SC; a sister, Julianna DiNardi of Daph- ne; and his maternal great-grand- mother, Barbara Mitchell of Myrtle Beach, SC, also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and three step- sisters who loved him very much, and thousands of friends who prayed for him to win his fight. Daniel was preceded in death by his infant sister, Suzy.

Daniel attended Daphne Middle School and was in his happy place in life, doing the things he loved to do. He spent his days fishing, riding his dirt bike, making videos, and he loved food. His proudest moment was just two weeks ago, when he caught a shark off May Day Pier. Daniel was strong physically, emotionally and spiritually. He was passionate and compassionate.

He said I love you everyday and had a smile that his mother found peace in. fight inspired thou- sands of people across the world, gave them hope and restored faith through the power of prayer. His legacy will continue. He was his hero. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011, at 10 a.m.

Maggie Whaley Ricken- backer, daughter of the late Mr. James Whaley and Mrs. Rosa Hooks Whaley, was born March 17, 1921, in the Jamison Community of Orangeburg County. Having lived such a glorious Christian life, she died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC. She was the wife of the late Rev- erend John Jefferson Rickenback- er of Orangeburg, SC.

Mrs. Rickenbacker received her elementary and secondary educa- tion from the public schools of Or- angeburg County. She received her Bachelor of Education Degree from Claflin University in 1948. She later received her De- gree of Education from South Car- olina State College. Mrs.

Ricken- backer received early Christian ed- ucation from Zion United Method- ist Church in the Jamison Community. Upon the marriage to her husband, she joined the Baptist denomination by becoming a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Orangeburg. As a mem- ber of New Mount Zion, she was a Sunday school teacher, member of the Hazel A. Pierce Victoria Scott Missionary Society, and the Dea- coness Board.

As a wife she served lovingly as the first lady of several churches. She served for 35 years as a teacher in Orangeburg and Dor- chester counties. She was a mem- ber of the South Carolina Educa- tion Association and the National Education Association. She worked in the Real Estate Industry for 20 years. The majority of her 20 years in Real Estate was spent at Coldwell Bankers Middleton Agen- cy of Orangeburg.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories: her daughter, Rosa R. (Robert) Anderson, of Bladens- burg, MD; son, John H. (Hazel) Rickenbacker, of Orangeburg, SC; four grandsons, Robert L. Ander- son II, of Bladensburg, MD, Davie Armstrong Rickenbacker, of Au- gusta, GA, James Whaley Ricken- backer and Harold Jefferson Rick- enbacker, both of Orangeburg, SC; sister, Ms. Willie Dean Whaley of Conway, SC; sister-in-laws, Dr.

Roys, age 81, of Columbia and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away June 28, 2011, at the Hospice of Charles- ton, after a brief illness. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1930 to Eliza- beth and James Barrie, she grew up in Los Angeles, California, where she attended University High School and UCLA. She was a graduate of Canal Zone College and the University of South Carolina, where she earned degrees in political science and in- ternational relations. She was the widow of Lt.

Col. Gerald R. Roys who died in 2002. She is survived by her sister, Joy L. Moore of Escondido, CA; a son, Michael Roys and his wife Kathy of Goose Creek; a daughter, Ellen Burchill and her husband Pe- ter Lemkin of North Potomac, MD; a son, Jim Roys and his wife Mary of Tigard, Oregon; and five grand- children: Melanie Roys, Steven Roys, Katie Burchill Nester, Jim Burchill, and David Roys.

Nancy married Gerry, a career Army officer in July 1951. Through- out his career, the family lived in far flung parts of the world, including Munich, Wurzburg, and Berlin, Germany; Rawalpindi, Pakistan; the Panama Canal Zone, and Bei- rut, Lebanon. Stateside assign- ments included Monterey, CA; Fort Benning, GA; Tacoma, WA; and Columbia, SC. She taught elemen- tary school at the American School in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and gov- ernment and history classes for U.S. military personnel in Berlin.

Following retirement from the military, Nancy returned to school and later taught U.S. history, international relations, and state and local government classes at Midlands Technical College in Co- lumbia for a number of years. Dur- ing summer vacations, she and Gerry travelled to Egypt, China, Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Africa, Turkey, Greece, Ire- land, England, Germany and Aus- tria. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery, where her late husband is buried. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Hospice of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Mt.

Smith was adaughter of the late Thomas Alex- ander Luther and the late Alice Dunlap Luther. She graduated from Hartsville High School and furthered her education at co*ker College, Hartsville, SC, where she earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics with a double mi- nor in History and Religion in 1936. Upon graduation from co*ker, she then took special graduate classes in Literature at Wake Forest University, Wake Forest, NC. As a young woman, she taught third and fourth grade in the S.C. public school system in Darlington and Lee counties before marriage to her beloved husband, Jasper Chadwick Smith on April 2, 1944.

Following her marriage, she worked closely along side her hus- band in his successful retail cloth- ing business, Smith Clothing Com- pany, formerly located at 34 North Main Street, Sumter, SC, until his untimely death in October of 1958. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church Sumter where she formerly taught Sunday school and Bible school, and was a choir mother for the young music program. She will be remembered for her love of learning and study in educa- tion, interest in music and the arts, and her lovely crochet handwork. Surviving are one loving and car- ing daughter, Jane Luther Smith of Sumter, three sisters, Mrs.

Claude (Kathryn) Funkhouser and her hus- band of Bethesda, MD, Mrs. Wil- liam Baxter (Marjorie) Harley and her husband of Columbia, SC, and Mrs. Robert Leslie (Mary) Hudson of Salisbury, NC, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Russell Jennings (Myrtle) Lu- ther of Hartsville, SC, and a num- ber of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs.
